AhlulBayt News Agency: Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, has strongly condemned the United States’ illegal and inhumane measures against the people of Cuba.
In a statement released on Monday, Baqaei denounced the tightening of economic restrictions on Cuba and the continued pressure imposed on the country, expressing Iran’s solidarity with the Cuban government and nation.
He pointed to more than six decades of US economic sanctions on Cuba, saying the measures have had far-reaching humanitarian consequences and have led to serious violations of the Cuban people’s fundamental rights.
According to IRNA, Baqaei stated that the sanctions represent a clear breach of the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly the right of peoples to self-determination, respect for national sovereignty, and the prohibition of interference in the internal affairs of states.
He further stressed that the United States should be held accountable for its ongoing and systematic violations of these principles, as well as for the widespread denial of the human rights of the Cuban people, describing the situation as amounting to a crime against humanity.
